It seems that Walkerville is no longer ‘Gauteng’s best kept secret’. The word is out and interest is growing at an alarming pace, with four new developments being advertised to the East of Walkerville in the Drumblade area. One of these developments will be another low density Golfing Estate with a building footprint of about 12%. This development is in a particularly beautiful part of Walkerville, but we have been assured the development will not have a negative impact on the landscape.
Is the Property Market Turning?
We believe that the Walkerville area has not been affected as badly as other areas, as we have a unique situation in that we can offer vacant land at R 200 000 for 2.5 acres, and a small holding with a house, cottage and sometimes work-shops, offices or small factories at about R1 million.
However since mid September we have noticed a huge increase in walk-in-business and enquiries, with sales this month so far 100% up on the previous best month this year. The stable interest rates coupled with the expected decline in debt to disposable income ratio should see a steady improvement in the market, with a positive impact by the middle of 2009 on the household purchasing power. We as RE/MAX gateway are looking forward to a fantastic 2009 in Walkerville.

Canterbury Country Restaurant & Pub’s recent extensions have transformed this popular spot into a magnificent venue. The restaurant and pub together with the patio and garden benches are packed over the weekends, with the kids enjoying the rolling lawns and playground equipment. Lots of evening entertainment with karaoke, quiz evenings, potjiekos competitions, etc. Well done to Tracy and Mark for giving us Walkerville residents a top notch venue to drink, eat and to be merry.
